My name is Ashley, and I’m a writer, aspiring publicity and marketing specialist AND creative who is constantly captivated by the world. My particular interests revolve around social issues alongside subcultures, marginal voices and social justice as well as fashion, film, art, books and music. I find that this ties in well with my degree as I have just completed a bachelor’s from Nottingham Trent University studying a joint honours in English, Television and Film. I have a highly creative mind combined with a strong practical skill set; this has enabled me to enhance my skills in presentation, planning and problem solving, using my own initiative to adapt ideas with a creative flair.
I’m continuously looking for inspiration, while interminably badgering between creativity and social advocacy which I proclaim as the core theme across subculture, visual art, representation and literature. My goal with this website is to not only write about what interests me creatively, but to also generate change and raise awareness, to critically reflect on my own experience with major issues as well as others’ with humanity. I’m an avid believer in the power of emerging technology, youth, and using art forms as a gateway to change society.
My personal inspirations range from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Valentine Nkoyo, Salma Haidrani, Tarana Burke, Nesrine Malik to Dolores Huerta, Reni Eddo-Lodge, Laura Bates and of course, Rihanna; alongside so many other amazing women activists. I’m hoping for this blog to become a factory of original concepts and cultural ideas for people to immerse themselves into, there will be features from the strange, unconventional and sometimes unsettling aspects of life that I never got access to learning about while growing up.
I came up with the concept of this blog while I was interning at Ideas On Paper as I was surrounded by books, journals and all kinds of beautiful printed works which then inspired me to come up with Ethereal, I also thought that the name was cute at the time. I really like it’s definition too; “Extremely delicate and light in a way that seems not to be of this world”.
This entire site is basically just about things that I love and what inspires me, while also being a blend between a blog for content and a personal portfolio. I want this to be a place where I am able to showcase the material I produced through my time in university and my own personal motivation, as well as being a platform where I can share my projects, written pieces and other works. I strongly believe that ambition and versatility are vital for creative yet professional development, so I am constantly seeking to expand my skill set through an array diverse experiences and opportunities.
Anyways, that’s a bit about me and this site. Other than that, I’m a 5’3, mixed-race girl from Wales (UK) that cries at terrible sitcoms. I’m also kind of in love with Lorde and my favourite colour is every colour. Hope you enjoy exploring this blog as much as I have enjoyed making it!
Lots of love,
